Clay County residents are facing a sudden change in their daily commute after a bridge on Moody Avenue was ruled "unsafe." This bridge, stationed between Connie Circle and Meadow Drive, and traversing Indigo Branch creek, now has drivers circumventing through a 1.6-mile detour. An official statement from Clay County on Saturday night indicated that the damage was being investigated, highlighting the potential risks posed to the public, by News4Jax reports.
Due to infrastructure issues, northbound traffic must now take a detour at Connie Circle. Drivers should follow Dennis Dr and make several turns through local roads to avoid the affected bridge. According to an update posted on News4Jax, southbound traffic will similarly have to navigate alternate paths starting at Meadow Dr. The detours are crucial not just to maintain traffic flow, but also to ensure that residents are not unwittingly exposed to any underlying dangers the damage may have instigated.
Further complicating matters for drivers, the discrepancies between reported detour routes have surfaced with First Coast News indicating Blanding Boulevard as part of the detour, a detail not mentioned in other sources. No definitive timeframe for the bridge's repair and reopening has been communicated, adding to the uncertainty for those affected by the disruption.
In a local reaction to the closure, the Clay County Sheriff's Office was the first to alert county officials of the precarious bridge conditions, which were later shared with the public. "The road is dipping in," reported Action News Jax. Clay County officials are warning that there might be a problem with a bridge that could take time to fix. They promise to keep the community updated with more information as it comes in, aiming to be transparent and reassuring while people work around the issue.
