Clearwater residents should expect longer commutes as road closures lead to detours around the city. A busted water main and roadwork are the main culprits behind this urban headache, according to an announcement from the City of Clearwater. But not to worry about your drinking water; the city assures residents that "This has no impact to city drinking water or reclaimed water services."
A 16-inch water main break at South Highland Avenue and Belleair Road will require repairs during the first week of September. Expect traffic delays and reroute your journey if you're traveling through that area. Starting September 9, a lane on westbound State Road 60 from Island Way to the Clearwater Memorial Causeway Bridge will close for drainage improvements, lasting about four weeks, weather permitting. Expect delays and plan extra time for your commute. Pedestrians will also have a detour on the south side of this area. Additionally, the eastbound section of Magnolia Drive from Brookside to Wellington is closed due to a bridge damaged by Tropical Storm Debby. Currently, no detour is available, and the timeline for repairs has not been determined.
Clearwater residents are advised to plan their routes carefully and monitor the City of Clearwater's official website for updates.
