Residents along the Southeast Georgia and Northeast Florida coastlines should brace themselves for minor coastal flooding and hazardous rip currents, as both continue to pose a threat into the evening. The National Weather Service in Jacksonville, Florida, has confirmed that the coastal flood advisory will remain in effect until 5 AM EDT Wednesday, alongside a high risk of rip currents which is expected to persist through late tonight.
The areas impacted by these conditions include Coastal Nassau, Coastal Duval, Coastal St. Johns, Coastal Flagler, Coastal Glynn, and Coastal Camden. National Weather Service officials advise caution, stating "Flooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water." When near the water, stay near a lifeguard. If you’re caught in a rip current, don’t swim against it. Float, swim parallel to the shore, or call for help if needed.
Additionally, the weekly forecast predicts unsettled weather conditions, with varying chances of showers and thunderstorms stretching into the weekend. Today, residents can expect a 30 percent chance of showers, mainly occurring between noon and 5 pm, with mostly cloudy skies and highs reaching near 82 degrees. Winds from the north could occasionally gust as high as 21 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
Authorities remind the public to take precautions, such as allowing extra travel time and avoiding driving through flooded areas or around barricades. Property owners in flood-prone areas should also take steps to protect their property from rising waters.
