Two local heroes, Firefighter/AEMT Josh Scott and Firefighter/Paramedic Jocko Tate, have been honored by the Sons of the American Revolution, Isaac Shelby Chapter for their exceptional service in Collierville. The awards ceremony, which took place on September 9, recognized the dedication and valor of these firefighters in their respective fields.
Josh Scott was awarded the Fire Safety Medal, a testament to his courage, especially during a house fire where his quick actions saved a fellow firefighter's life. According to Collierville's official announcement, "while searching for victims in an upstairs bedroom engulfed in fire, smoke, and intense heat, a Lieutenant fell into a hole in the floor." Scott managed to suppress the fire using a pump can and extricated the Lieutenant, who was caught in the floorboards.
Jocko Tate's receipt of the Emergency Medical Services Medal celebrates his impactful leadership within the Fire Department's EMS Program. His guidance has not only shaped his fellow paramedics and EMTs but has also enhanced the quality of patient care. "His compassionate approach and commitment to high patient care standards have raised the bar for Collierville Fire Department’s EMS and Ambulance Services," reads the statement obtained by the Collierville website.
Fire Chief John Selberg, Assistant Chief Paul Witt, and Lieutenant Clay McDearman also attended the ceremony to honor the achievements of both Josh and Jocko. Their presence symbolized a unity and pride in a department that regularly places their lives at risk for the safety and well-being of the community they serve.
