A major drug bust on Interstate 680 has led to the arrest of a Concord man after a California Highway Patrol (CHP) K9 unit sniffed out nearly 100 pounds of suspected methamphetamine. The incident occurred on the morning of August 29 when a CHP officer from the Golden Gate Division pulled over a van for a traffic violation near Marina Vista Road in Concord.
The routine stop quickly escalated after the officer became suspicious of additional criminal activities by the driver. During this initial conversation, the officer called upon his canine partner, Vito, to perform an exterior sniff of the vehicle. Vito indicated the presence of narcotics, which then gave officers probable cause to search the vehicle, where they found numerous bags filled with the illegal drug. The haul, up to around 100 pounds, was stashed throughout the GMC van.
47-year-old Magdaleno Quezada Garcia, the driver of the van, found himself under arrest following the search. Officers took him to the Martinez Detention Facility, where he now faces multiple felony charges, including possession and transportation of methamphetamine for sale, according to the CHP Golden Gate Division.
