The Dallas area is gearing up for a stretch of sunny weather this week, with temperatures teetering in the low 90s, according to the National Weather Service. Today's forecast promises a high near 92 degrees under clear skies, and this pattern is set to hold steadily through the end of the week.
However, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has also issued an Ozone Action Day for the Dallas-Fort Worth area for Monday, September 30, 2024. The TCEQ warns that conditions are expected to favor the production of high levels of ozone air pollution. They advise residents to help reduce ozone pollution by choosing to carpool, ride a bike, or take public transportation to avoid increasing further emissions.
"You can help prevent ozone pollution by sharing a ride, walking, riding a bicycle, taking your lunch to work, avoiding drive-through lanes, conserving energy, and keeping your vehicle properly tuned," states the National Weather Service release.
Despite the clear skies, the public is encouraged to be proactive in reducing air pollution. The warning coincides with a week of seemingly endless sunshine, with the mercury hovering around 90 degrees for the duration. While the pleasant weather might tempt more people to drive, authorities hope the alert will gently nudge them to consider more environmentally friendly transport options.
