The City of Dallas is bracing for a series of sunny days with temperatures steadily climbing, inviting residents to prepare for a wave of heat that demands attention. According to the National Weather Service, today's weather is expected to be sunny with a high near 94 degrees and calm winds turning west at about 5 mph in the afternoon, as the day turns into a mostly clear night with a low of around 73 degrees.
The coming days appear to offer no respite from the persistent swelter, beginning with Saturday which is set to blaze at nearly 97 degrees and heat index values soaring as high as 100, the southeast wind around 5 mph creating only a mere whisper of relief, and the nighttime partly cloudy sky limned with a low around 74 degrees. The National Weather Service indicates Sunday to continue the trend, sunny with a high near 96 degrees and clear night skies.
Additionally, the Hazardous Weather Outlook report delivered an air quality concern for the residents, an Ozone Action Day for the Dallas-Fort Worth area has been issued for Friday due to anticipated high levels of ozone air pollution. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality encourages citizens to share rides, walk or bike when possible, and conserve energy to aid in preventing increased air pollution levels.
While no hazardous weather is expected beyond patchy fog in East Texas during the early morning, severe weather is unlikely over the weekend, and spotter activation is not anticipated. The forecast calls for continued high temperatures, with Monday through Wednesday expected to remain sunny and in the mid-90s during the day, and mostly clear nights with lows around 75 degrees.
