Delta Air Lines has announced plans to significantly expand its operations out of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport with the launch of five additional nonstop routes set to take flight in 2025. According to CBS Austin, the airline will connect Austin to Panama City, Florida; Memphis, Tennessee; Indianapolis, Indiana; San Francisco, California; and Tampa, Florida. New service to Panama City is strategically starting on March 9, aligning with the demand for spring break travel.
Following Panama City, flights to Indianapolis and Memphis are to quickly start on May 7, the latter of which will be the only nonstop service from Austin. The final two routes, to San Francisco and Tampa, are slated to commence on June 8. In a statement from Joe Esposito, Delta's Senior Vice President of Network Planning, obtained by KXAN, this expansion is part of Delta's continuing commitment to Austin, bringing its peak daily departures up to 55 by summer 2025.

Flights to Panama City, Memphis, and Indianapolis will operate under the Delta Connection brand, managed by SkyWest on Embraer 175 aircraft. Conversely, routes to San Francisco and Tampa plan to feature Delta's Airbus A220-300 aircraft, which boasts fewer middle seats and larger overhead bins for enhanced passenger comfort.
Delta's growth in Austin reflects a broader strategy to capitalize on American Airlines' recent route reductions at AUS. Over the past year, America cut more than 30 routes from the airport. These new routes by Delta, especially to Memphis, establish the airline as the sole operator providing direct service from Austin to the Tennessee city. "Delta has made its commitment to Austin known, and these new routes and the 55 peak-day departures planned for Summer 2025 reaffirm that," Esposito told KXAN.
Between January and July this year, Delta transported over 1.8 million passengers to and from Austin, marking a 23.5% increase over the same period in the prior year, as reported by KXAN. This passenger growth stands in stark contrast to America’s 16% decline in passenger traffic. With this strategic expansion, Delta continues to strengthen its position at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport as the third-largest operator in terms of passenger count, just behind Southwest and American.
