An incident in Detroit last night has led to the death of a mother who was trying to calm an argument between two young acquaintances, police have reported. The fatal shooting took place around 8:10 p.m. in the 18000 block of Runyon Street. A Detroit police official confirmed, "It’s just one of those things that doesn’t make sense. You got two people over here, associates hanging out. All of a sudden, they get in an argument, it escalates, we got two people shot," according to WXYZ.
The victims were both known to each other and following the argument, one individual produced a firearm, resulting in one person being critically injured and the mother, who attempted to intervene, fatally wounded. The mother was the parent of one of the juveniles involved in the dispute. According to ClickOnDetroit, Detroit police Commander John Svec said, "Officers arrived within two minutes where two victims were discovered and immediately began rendering aid before they both were conveyed to local hospitals where the adult is currently fatal, and the other one is in critical condition."
At present, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and the investigation is ongoing as police work to establish the identity of the shooter. CBS News Detroit noted that law enforcement described the incident as "an isolated incident".
