On Saturday night in Collierville, a suspect involved in a domestic violence case from August crashed into a police car and two other vehicles. The Collierville Police Department responded to the accident, and the suspect was taken to the hospital but later died from his injuries, as reported by Action News 5.
The incident took a turn for the worse after officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop at South Street and Sycamore when they identified the suspect together with the reported missing victim of the earlier domestic violence incident, during the stop the suspect sped away, thus leading to a brief pursuit, as FOX13 Memphis described. As the incident escalated, the suspect rammed into the police vehicle and slammed into two parked cars, losing control of his vehicle.
The suspect, whose name has not been released by the Collierville Police, was found with the victim who was initially driving the car, after she exited the vehicle, the suspect took over the driver's seat and the situation deteriorated from there, per WREG. The victim of the domestic violence case was safely removed from the vehicle before the suspect initiated his fatal getaway attempt.
Residents, Blake and Maddie Reynolds, shared their first-hand account of the mayhem that transpired, "We heard just a loud boom and kind of felt the house shake almost like an earthquake," Blake told WREG, "We were towards the back of the house, so I kind of yelled and said ‘Was that you?’ or you know, what was that? We ran front to the front windows and peeked through the blinds, and puffs of smoke were in the air, and the cops were right behind them."; adding that they were ordered to stay inside as the police rapidly cordoned off the area immediately after the crash. The investigation into this matter is still ongoing.
