An East Bridgewater man faces charges following a recent package theft, with police employing modern surveillance tactics to track him down. The East Bridgewater Police Department has confirmed the arrest of Arialdys Arias, 38, of Dorchester, who has been charged with larceny over $1,200 and conspiracy in connection with a stolen iPhone 15 Pro reported on Sept. 5, according to a statement from the department.
A home surveillance system captured the crime, leading to a collaborative effort between East Bridgewater and West Bridgewater Police Departments. Arias allegedly followed a FedEx truck around the neighborhood, snatching the package shortly after delivery. Following a lead involving a white Toyota Scion xB seen in the area, West Bridgewater Police utilized their license plate recognition system to pinpoint the vehicle's registration, the department stated.
With this information at hand, Massachusetts State Police were alerted, and they later located and stopped the implicated vehicle. Arias was arrested by East Bridgewater Police on Monday, Sept. 9. The work by local law enforcement didn't go unnoticed, with Police Chief Michael Jenkins praising his team's quick and effective response. “This was phenomenal investigative police work, where we utilized license plate recognition cameras from West Bridgewater Police,” Chief Jenkins said, in a statement obtained by the department's official release.
Additionally, authorities are seeking an arrest warrant for a second suspect, believed to have been in the vehicle with Arias at the time of the incident. The investigation remains ongoing, with the department vowing to continue its efforts in holding both individuals accountable. Arias is set to be arraigned Tuesday in Brockton District Court, the details of which will likely bring more insight into this case of modern-day banditry.
