Long Beach experienced a night of gun violence as the Long Beach Police Department reported two separate shooting incidents that occurred on the evening of September 15, stirring concern among residents.
The first incident, a no-hit shooting in the 200 block of 56th Street, took place around 7:45 p.m., with officers discovering evidence of gunfire, however, suspects had vanished before law enforcement arrived on scene and, thankfully, there were no injuries sustained by any individuals, as confirmed by the LBPD Blotter.
Later that night, at approximately 10:10 p.m., a hit-shooting incident occurred in the 1200 block of Hoffman Avenue. There, officers found a male victim suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound caused by a bullet that had ricocheted and hit him in the lower body, the victim declined medical attention at the scene, deciding instead to mitigate the day’s violence with his sense of solemn fortitude.
The investigation into the Hoffman Avenue incident led to the arrest of 31-year-old Manuel Jesus Gonzales, identified by the Long Beach Police as the suspect involved in the dispute that escalated to gunfire, he was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and is held on a $30,000 bail, adding to the City's ongoing narrative of enveloping these sporadic bursts of chaos with a firm hand of justice, according to the same LBPD release.
Further updates are forthcoming as the investigations proceed, and authorities pledge to work diligently to ensure safety and justice for the inflicted parties and the larger community at stake.
