
An incident in Easton, New Hampshire, has led to a murder charge against a 23-year-old man in connection with the death of his grandmother. NBC Boston reports that on Saturday morning, state police found the body of 76-year-old Cynthia Lanchester at a residence on North Peak Drive; she had sustained blunt force trauma.
The Attorney General's office later announced that the victim's grandson, Joshua Lanchester, was taken into custody that evening, and he's being charged with second-degree murder, using a hammer as a deadly weapon leading to his grandmother's death, officials have not yet proposed a motive for the attack, but an autopsy is scheduled to provide more information about the circumstances of her death. Boston 25 News reports that the suspect is being held without bail and is set for arraignment today in Littleton District Court.
Attorney General John M. Formella initially provided limited details but later shared more information, including the identity of the victim and the charges against her grandson. Authorities received the first 911 call shortly after 11:40 a.m., and during their response, state police discovered Cynthia Lanchester. They soon encountered her grandson, which led to his arrest, according to official statements.
The Attorney General's office has stated that there is no threat to the public, as this appears to be an isolated incident.
