Curiosity about the inner workings of the Eden Prairie Police Department (EPPD) can now be satisfied for local seniors, thanks to a new initiative on the horizon. The EPPD has opened its proverbial doors, inviting senior citizens to enroll in a unique Police Academy tailored to their demographic. Scheduled to run this autumn, the program is designed as a broad overview of the department's operations, aiming to deepen community understanding and engagement.
This five-week course, set to commence on October 16, promises an educational deep dive into the everyday workings of the EPPD, from examining the intricacies of fraud case studies to the analysis of local crime statistics - students will be met with a curriculum that spans multiple facets of law enforcement, including sobering discussions on DWIs and the specifics of traffic enforcement. However, it's not all about the grave matters of societal protection; participants can also expect interactive experiences with advanced police tools and teams, as "there will also be visits from the drone, K-9 and SWAT teams," as divulged in a recent bulletin.
The knowledge-sharing sessions are scheduled every Wednesday from morning until noon, with the final day offering a communal lunch - a gesture of fellowship and gratitude for the attendees.
Seniors interested in the program have until October 2 to secure their spot by registering online, using the code 471108, or by reaching out directly to the Eden Prairie Senior Center over the phone, for individuals seeking a more personal touch they've provided the number 952-279-8050 with a friendly reminder that more information can be garnered through the same channel. Both registration and additional inquiries are being funneled through the Eden Prairie Senior Center, the program's primary contact point and liaison for the seniors.
