The Eden Prairie Police Department welcomed a new member to its ranks as Chief Matt Sackett swore in Phil Morgan, the department's latest officer to join the force, in a pledge to serve the local community with the same commitment he's demonstrated throughout his law enforcement career thus far, according to an announcement from city officials.
Morgan's path to the EPPD is marked by a unique blend of the arts and crime fighting, having honed his voice at The Blake School in Eden Prairie before embarking on a career in law enforcement with a solid foundation in music, he studied at DePaul University, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance and then at Arizona State University for his Master of Music degree in Opera Performance, after which he spent six years with the Gilbert Police Department in Arizona, where his tenure culminated in a role as a detective in the Violent Crimes Unit.
His next few months will be spent undergoing the department’s intensive field training program, which is designed to equip him with the necessary skills and local knowledge to patrol solo across Eden Prairie’s neighborhoods and ensure community safety effectively as stated in the EPPD blog.
While Morgan's transition to independent patrol will follow a rigorous 3-4 month training period, the community is encouraged to extend a warm reception, and as the city's EPPD blog noted in its recent post, "Welcome Officer Morgan!" reflecting both the department's and community's support for its newest addition to the law enforcement team.
