Last night, a fire broke out in the Carrick neighborhood of Pittsburgh, pulling emergency services into action to quell the flames and rescue residents. Just before the clock struck 10, firefighters were dispatched to a residence on the 100 block of Minooka Street where the blaze had engulfed part of a home, according to a public safety blotter post by the City of Pittsburgh.

Upon arrival, firefighters found an elderly woman, 72, in the first-floor living room of the home, which was rapidly being consumed by fire. The woman was in grave condition with severe burns and complications from smoke inhalation. Even though medics worked hard to save her on the way to the hospital, her injuries were too severe. She died at the hospital, highlighting how dangerous and uncontrollable fire can be.

The Pittsburgh Fire Investigation Unit found that the fire started in the victim's bed in the living room. They're still looking into what caused it, but early signs suggest it was an accident, which at least means there was no foul play.
