Los Angeles residents are under an Excessive Heat Warning as temperatures persist at dangerously high levels. The warning, which has been extended until 8 PM PDT today, was issued by the National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA. During this period, highs ranging from 93 to 103 degrees Fahrenheit are expected to continue.
Issued on Monday, the Excessive Heat Warning remains in effect for multiple areas, including Downtown Los Angeles, Calabasas, Agoura Hills, and Eastern Santa Monica Mountains, to name a few. According to the National Weather Service, the very young, the very old, and those without air conditioning are at high risk for heat illness, especially for those active outdoors. They also state that tonight temperatures will remain warm, exacerbating the impact of daytime heat.
This high-pressure weather system is expected to linger in the area, with the National Weather Service predicting high temperatures through Tuesday. "There is a high risk for dangerous heat illness for anyone," warned the NWS bulletin. Residents are advised to take precautionary measures such as avoiding outdoor activities and remaining in air-conditioned spaces.
Preparedness actions are crucial during this time. The National Weather Service advises, "Check up on relatives and neighbors." Furthermore, community members are strongly encouraged to never leave young children or pets in unattended vehicles, where temperatures can reach lethal degrees quickly. Additionally, despite the heat, the cloud cover is set to increase tonight, with patchy fog developing after 11 PM, which in the morning, will then give way to gradual clearing. Sunny skies are anticipated on Thursday with a high near 78 degrees and a return to relatively clear conditions through to the upcoming weekend.
