Federal investigators have intensified their scrutiny on the shipping company linked to a recent maritime disaster, as FBI agents boarded a vessel managed by Synergy Marine Group at the Port of Baltimore. According to WBALTV, Synergy Marine Group, also tied to the catastrophic collapse of the Key Bridge earlier this year, is currently managing the Maersk Saltoro, where agencies including the FBI, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Criminal Investigation Division, and the Coast Guard's Investigative Services are conducting a court-sanctioned operation.
According to a CBS News report, the authorities echoed the familiar phrase "unable to comment further," potentially indicating ongoing and sensitive investigative measures. Darrell Wilson, a spokesperson for Grace Ocean, which owns the Maersk Saltoro, confirmed the FBI and Coast Guard representatives boarding the ship and reiterated management's eagerness to address the controversies publicly in court.
In March, the Dali, another ship managed by Synergy Marine Group, suffered a power outage and struck the Francis Scott Key Bridge, resulting in its collapse and the tragic loss of six workers. This incident has since spiraled into a lawsuit where the Justice Department accuses the owner and manager of the Dali of neglect and seeking recovery of upwards of $100 million for damages and operational disruptions caused by the accident.
There isn’t much information about the FBI's recent actions involving the Maersk Saltoro. The FBI, EPA, and Coast Guard are still investigating the situation related to the management company, which may reveal larger concerns about shipping safety and regulations. Meanwhile, the city is dealing with the ongoing impacts of this challenging situation.
