Early Wednesday morning, a single-story home in the vicinity of Fair Oaks and Carmichael in Sacramento County was extensively damaged by a fire. Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District crews were dispatched to a property on La Field Drive around 5:40 a.m., as reported by KCRA. On arrival, responders were met with heavy smoke and visually obscured by a cluttered environment filled with a large amount of personal items.

During the course of their efforts, firefighters encountered what was described as hoarder conditions that complicated the firefighting operations. According to CBS Sacramento, a flash occurred after everything in one of the rooms reached ignition temperatures, resulting in a mayday call. This sudden event led to the injury of two firefighters who suffered minor burns.

The blaze was brought under control before 6:13 a.m., as stated by Sac Metro Fire. The home was occupied by three adults and a child at the time of the fire. These individuals were safely evacuated, with three of them later taken to a hospital to be treated for minor smoke inhalation injuries. The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District confirmed that no other buildings were impacted by the fire. However, several pets, both dogs and cats, that were inside during the incident remain unaccounted for. The investigation to determine the cause of the fire is ongoing.
