In the early hours of Wednesday morning, a blaze erupted inside the Pixelle Distribution Center in York County, gripping local firefighters in a battle against the flames. The incident began around 2:20 a.m. at the paper mill located on the 5600 block of York Road. According to Local 21 News, a security patrol officer first discovered the fire when no workers were reported inside the building.
Multiple fire companies' determined efforts managed to contain the danger, with fire officials from North Codorus Township suspecting its origin near a conveyor belt. Despite the risks outlined by the extensive wood surrounding the facility, "crews were able to contain the blaze before it got out of the building," North Codorus Township Fire Chief Tim Carr stated, as reported by WGAL. Carr also mentioned that equipment malfunction may have ignited the dangerous situation.
The incident necessitated a significant response from emergency services, with around fifteen fire companies arriving to address the urgent matter. FOX43 reported that the situation was controlled roughly by 3:50 a.m.
