A conflagration enveloping several vehicles erupted yesterday evening in Downtown Memphis, drawing the Memphis Fire Department into swift action. The scene unfolded on Webster Avenue near Georgia Avenue, where plumes of black smoke bellowed into the sky, visible across the downtown skyline, as per an Action News 5 report.
While the fire was rapidly subdued without resulting in any human casualties, according to the Memphis Fire Department, the flames originated from a tire shop, and while firefighters managed to get the blaze under control ambulances and Memphis Police were also present on the scene reports, according to Local Memphis.
The vicinity of the inferno was near the South Main district, in an area known for housing salvage cars, as noted by WREG. The substantial presence of emergency services converged at the intersection of Hernando Street and Webster Avenue, not far from a Valero gas station and the iconic B.B. King Blvd. The immediate danger is over, but the cause of the fire at 259 Webster is still unknown. The Memphis Fire Department is investigating.
