In Florida, bystanders showed great bravery and teamwork when they helped a truck driver whose vehicle ended up in the water after a crash. The Brevard County Sheriff's Office was notified about the accident that happened on the Pineda Causeway. The truck hit the center barrier, broke through the guardrail, and ended up in the water, according to a report by WFLA.
Upon the deputies' arrival at the accident site, they encountered two civilians, identified by the sheriff's office as Ariana Ebert and Don Cobb, who endeavored to keep the driver's head above water—the driver, the trap of his seatbelt undone, was then prevented from a possible drowning by these quick-thinking individuals. Ariana Ebert and Don Cobb "were holding the driver’s head above water, partially out of the vehicle, but the driver was trapped on something inside the car, preventing them from being able to pull him out," the sheriff's office stated, capturing the urgent situation as told by News Channel 21.
With the aid of the deputies, the trio was successful in extracting the driver from his sinking vehicle. Resuscitation efforts began shortly thereafter with CPR being administered, an essential step that possibly made the difference in the driver's survival. Eventually, the driver received transportation to the hospital, where he presently remains within the intensive care unit, still fighting for his life.
Reflecting on the day's events, Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey was quoted by WESH expressing his heartfelt admiration for his community: "There are not enough words on days like today that explain the immense emotions one feels about just how great this community is!! Our Deputies are trained to jump into action in emergency situations, and we would never ask citizens to put their own lives at risk, but to see them selflessly try to save someone in a truly scary situation, shows the kind of people that make up Brevard County!!"
