A Fond du Lac duplex was engulfed by flames late Monday evening, resulting in the hospitalization of an individual who narrowly escaped the fire by leaping from a second-story window. The fire department received calls around 11 p.m. to rush to the scene at the intersection of Packer Street and Arndt Street, where they were met with a blaze that had taken over the rear of the property and heavy smoke billowing from the structure, as reported by FOX6Now
The individual, who was the sole occupant of the upper unit, sustained injuries in their frantic exit and was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment, the details of his condition have not been disclosed. As fire crews initiated their attack against the flames from the exterior, then transitioned to an interior offensive to quell the rampant fire, they confirmed the building was devoid of any other residents, WISN detailed.
Efforts to extinguish the fire took approximately 45 minutes. The aftermath left both levels of the home reeling from significant damage due to the fire, alongside the corrosive effects of smoke and water, FOX11Online noted. Nearby structures, including a garage and a vehicle, also suffered damage in the incident. To ensure safety, Alliant Energy was summoned to the scene to manage the electric and gas services.
Fond du Lac Fire Rescue and the Fond du Lac Police Department are currently in the midst of an investigation to ascertain the origin and cause of the fire. The Police Department also provided support with managing the scene and traffic control.
