Last Wednesday night's close-knit coordination among law enforcement and local volunteers underscored the sense of community in two separate, potentially dire situations in Fort Worth, Texas, as detailed in updates from the White Settlement Police Department.
The first incident, an alarming purse-snatching where gunfire rang out, arose from an apparent Good Samaritan's venture to aid the victim—this element of the case is still under scrutiny. Sgt. Lana Cook's patrol, which included Officer Wesley Gregory, Officer Jonathan Loser, and Chief Cook, swiftly responded to the call, culminating in a chase around Ridgmar Mall. With the Fort Worth Police's Real Time Crime Center tracking the suspect and a key witness's information, officers arrested the suspect after "a lengthy foot pursuit" for Evading Arrest and Theft from a Person, detailed in a Facebook post by the White Settlement Police Department.
A second call of the night brought communities together in the search for a missing child, a collective effort led by the WS Police Department, including Citizens on Patrol and the Fort Worth PD West Division after Chief Cook rallied volunteers at an Incident Command set up at West Freeway Church of Christ with Lt. Denise Callahan at the helm, the White Settlement Police Department lauded everyone's "excellent collaboration and teamwork." The Fort Worth PD's helicopter, Air One, spotted the child in an apartment complex, where Sgt. Person safely reunited him with his family in a heartfelt pinnacle to the evening's anxious search; even a local citizen contributed by delivering pizza to the search volunteers at the command post.
