A car crash near the U.S./Mexico Border on Sunday afternoon has left four people injured, two of which are in serious condition, according to fire dispatch officials. The collision reported as a head-on crash, occurred on the westbound lanes of Paisano near Porfirio Diaz at approximately 2:16 p.m.
The El Paso Fire Department responded to the scene and transported four individuals to the hospital. It was found that one of the vehicles involved had been driving the wrong way on Loop 375 near Porfirio Diaz, which is to likely have primarily caused the collision. "An initial report called the crash a 'head-on' crash," as stated by KVIA, and this was substantiated by footage from TXDOT cameras aimed at the crash site, showing a car turned around against traffic.
The extent of the injuries sustained by the two less seriously injured victims is not clear, but the incident has once again brought concerns about road safety in the area to the forefront. With the roads being a pulsing artery for cross-border travel, accidents such as this resonate with the precarious nature of navigating these paths.
Emergency services quickly secured the scene, and an investigation is currently underway to thoroughly understand the circumstances leading up to the crash. It is a procedure meant not only to bring closure to those affected but to ensure that similar incidents are prevented. The Fire Department indicated that determining the reasons behind why the vehicle was driving the wrong way would be a crucial aspect of this ongoing inquiry, as detailed by KFOX-TV.
