Texas Governor Greg Abbott has been vocal about the state's economic boom, especially highlighting how the growth and prosperity in the Rio Grande Valley are reaching new heights, in a recent fireside chat at the South Texas Alliance of Cities quarterly meeting held in McAllen. With a sense of pride for the ongoing development in this part of the state, Abbott declared, "Looking at the growth, prosperity, and economic opportunity in this region, there has never been a better time to have a business in the Rio Grande Valley," according to a statement released by the Office of the Texas Governor.
Abbott didn't shy away from touting the Lone Star State's prowess in attracting businesses, as evidenced by the 12 consecutive Governor’s Cup awards for corporate relocation and expansion projects it has bagged, and his chat with McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos brought attention to Texas' business-friendly environment and the robust economic development incentive tools in play backed by a hefty $148 billion transportation investment aimed to overhaul roads in the next decade, Governor Abbott and Mayor Villalobos addressed the numerous initiatives aiming to fuel the future growth and ensure ease of business. Among the initiatives highlighted was the creation of a water fund and a development plan that aims to address water needs from the Panhandle down to the Rio Grande Valley.
The meeting also saw an assembly of significant figures in the state's political and environmental sphere, including Brownsville Mayor John Cowen, Edinburg Mayor Ramiro Garza, Harlingen Mayor Norma Sepulveda, among others. Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Chairman Jon Niermann, Texas Division of Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd, and others were in attendance, reflecting the collaborative effort from various sectors to drive economic development.
