Taking strides to bolster the Texan workforce, Governor Greg Abbott has unveiled a grant topping $1.2 million, directed to Tarrant County College (TCC). The hefty sum, as reported by the Office of the Texas Governor, is earmarked to enhance the skill sets of more than 630 employees at Cummings Electrical, signifying a concerted effort in upskilling workers in high-demand electrical occupations.
"This workforce training grant will provide hardworking Texans with valuable upskilling opportunities to take their careers to new heights," Governor Abbott told the Texas Government official website, underscoring Texas' commitment to prepping its workforce for the challenges of the future. The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), the agency behind the grant, strives to bolster partnerships that facilitate professional development and career advancement among Texans.
During the presentation ceremony at TCC's Opportunity Center in Fort Worth, TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel handed over the award to representatives from TCC and Cummings Electrical, as well as other local stakeholders. As stressed by Chairman Daniel in the ceremony, the Skills Development Fund is critical in matching the Texas workforce with high-demand jobs and is instrumental in Texans' career progression.
Since its inception in 1996, the SDF grant program has been a springboard for over 420,000 jobs across Texas, benefiting a partnership with over 4,800 employers. Citing Texas Government official website, the SDF stands as the state's premier workforce training grant program that seeks to close the skills gap through strategic training initiatives crafted for businesses to raise the bar of their current or incoming talent pool.
