Gwinnett County is gearing up for a series of changes, aimed at improving infrastructure and bolstering public safety. In a recent meeting on September 3, according to the Gwinnett County's official news release, the Board of Commissioners put their weight behind several initiatives.
Key among the approved projects is a significant overhaul of Lakeview Road, where a two-lane bridge will make way for wider lanes and sidewalks, enhancing both pedestrian and vehicular movement over Big Haynes Creek. E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc., secured the $3.8 million construction job, with the majority of the funding supplied by SPLOST. In the same breath, Gwinnett County signed off on a $667,700 deal with Motorola Solutions, Inc. to replace a host of outdated radios, ensuring continuous and clear communication for various departments, including code enforcement and public safety personnel.
Another slice of technology improvement comes in the form of enhanced traffic surveillance and crime investigation tools. A hefty $1.5 million will be spent to renew contracts and purchase new signal-related facilities. The money for these projects is picked from the substantial coffers of the American Rescue Plan Act and various SPLOST programs, awarded to 360 Network Solutions.
Addressing crime rates, the commissioners gave a nod to the addition of 40 Flock cameras known for their license plate reading capability. Gwinnett Police will add these to their arsenal for real-time monitoring, aiming a keen eye at the county's roadways. Funded through the American Rescue Plan Act and the Governor’s Public Safety and Community Violence Reduction Grant, Flock Group, Inc. landed the $225,300 contract. In parallel, a technological leap forward is the pilot project for adaptive signal control on Grayson Highway. SWARCO McCain, Inc. is steering this initiative, at a cost of $191,130, to render traffic signals more responsive to the ebb and flow of daily traffic.
