The Warren County Sheriff’s Office has identified Rupak R. Padini, a 25-year-old graduate student from Harrisburg University, as the drowning victim at Lake George late last month. According to WGAL, the Indian citizen was part of a group struggling in the water near the shore on Aug. 27, when deputies responded to the emergency around 3:20 p.m.
Following the initial rescue of the group, it was discovered, as the officials arrived, that Padini was missing. Local 21 News reported that marine patrol officers at Lamb Shanty Bay in Hague recovered his body after a search. No watercraft were believed to be involved in this tragic incident, which has since launched an ongoing investigation.
Harrisburg University expressed their condolences over the loss of Padini, whom they described as embodying the spirit of learning that the institution values. "Our thoughts are with all those involved, especially the family and friends of the student we have lost," the university stated in a social media post shared by Local 21 News. "Rupak Reddy Padini brought the eagerness to learn that our institution was founded to celebrate and cultivate."
Padini, who had been visiting the lake with friends, was pronounced dead at the scene despite attempts at resuscitation. Near a pontoon boat when initially located, authorities have clarified through the Sheriff's Office that Padini and his companions had not directly used any watercraft in connection with the drowning. As the friends and university community cope with this loss, Harrisburg University's Office of Student Support Services offers resources for students affected by the tragedy.
