A heavy truck became lodged under a pedestrian bridge near NRG Park in Houston, causing traffic disruptions along the I-610 South Loop westbound this past weekend. According to FOX 26 Houston, the Texas Department of Transportation reported that a high-load heavy truck struck the bridge near Kirby Drive, leading to multiple closed lanes on the interstate.
As a consequence, traffic was significantly impacted, with first responders and crews dispatched quickly to try to address the situation. Click2Houston noted that the right shoulder, right lane, and center lane were all closed, as indicated in an announcement made yesterday shortly after 5:40 p.m.
Clean-up efforts and attempts to extricate the truck ensued into the evening. By approximately 9:50 p.m., the Texas Department of Transportation was able to provide an update, stating that the "tanker had been removed from under the freeway and is in the process of being removed from the highway," as reported by Click2Houston. This complex task was carried out with special care to manage the traffic flow and to ensure the safety of the crews working at the scene.
During the cleanup process, crews remained present on the highway, clearing debris caused by the collision to ensure safe travel for motorists. Official updates on the progress of the road clearing were sparse, but both sources indicated the efforts were intense, demonstrating the urgency and gravity of restoring one of Houston's major traffic arteries back to its full function.
