
Henry County has seen a flurry of police activity recently with two separate yet concerning incidents involving illegal drugs, guns, and a middle school student arrested for possession of a firearm. In a bust that took place just north of McDonough Square and on State Route 42, authorities seized an assortment of narcotics including 500.25 grams of marijuana, 11.1 grams of fentanyl, and 235.5 grams of cocaine, as per a report by FOX 5 Atlanta. The arsenal recovered consisted of two handguns, one rifle, alongside one money counter, one vacuum sealer, and three measuring scales.
Among the recovered items, police also discovered 4.1 grams of cocaine in a vehicle of one of the suspects. Two individuals are now facing charges including possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, trafficking in fentanyl, trafficking in cocaine, as well as multiple firearms charges. The identity of those arrested in the bust has not been disclosed by officials.
In an unrelated incident, the Henry County Police Department thwarted a potentially dangerous situation at Woodland Middle School. A student was stopped and arrested after a gun was discovered before they could enter the school premises. According to a statement obtained by WSB-TV, a tip led school resource officers to investigate and prevent the student from bringing the weapon into the school zone. No one was hurt in the incident.
Authorities charged the student with possession of pistol/revolver by person under 18 years of age and carrying a weapon in school safety zone, the report continued. As the investigation remains ongoing, there has been an increasing concern about the presence of firearms in and around school settings. The community and law enforcement are dealing with the repercussions of these events, demonstrating the constant vigilance required to maintain safety.
