A severe collision between a motorcycle and a car in Port Sheldon Township has left a 23-year-old Holland man with serious injuries, as reported by multiple sources. The incident occurred just before 4 p.m. yesterday, with emergency personnel responding to the intersection of 144th Avenue and Van Buren Street, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
Sent to the hospital with very serious injuries, the motorcycle’s driver, whose identity has not been released, was northbound on 144th Avenue when the crash took place, WZZM 13 reported. A 36-year-old Holland woman drove the car that allegedly entered the intersection on Van Buren Street, subsequently colliding with the motorcycle. The impact ejected the motorcyclist into a nearby ditch.
Preliminary investigations by the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office were unsure whether the man had been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, though a helmet was discovered at the scene but away from the motorcycle, as noted by WOODTV. The specifics surrounding the accident remained uncertain, and an ongoing investigation has been initiated by the OCSO.
The aftermath of the crash saw the Port Sheldon Fire Department and AMR ambulance responding, with the motorcyclist being taken to Butterworth Hospital, MLive mentioned. The crash's circumstances and the events leading up to it remain under scrutiny by local authorities.
