Early this morning, tragedy struck a Houston neighborhood as a deadly fire took the life of a man in the Parkglen area. The Houston Fire Department responded to the call in the 11000 block of Longbrook Drive at approximately 5:30 a.m., finding a residential house engulfed in flames. According to ABC13, two individuals were able to escape the blaze and informed the firefighters that someone was still trapped inside. Despite efforts to conduct a thorough search and quickly extinguish the fire, the man was found deceased inside the home.
While crews battled the fire, a neighbor, Gilbert Benitez, reported to ABC13 that he was awakened by the sound of screams and observed someone desperately attempting to fight back the fire with a garden hose before the arrival of professional help. "It's kind of crazy. You see it on the news, but you never expect you'll be the one to experience it," Benitez said. Fortunately, no firefighters were injured while responding to the incident.
The blaze was reported to have caused significant damage to the property; aftermath footage showed a hole in the roof and substantial structural damage to the front of the residence. The HFD's Arson Division is actively investigating to uncover what led to the fire, as details regarding the origin and cause remain undetermined at this stage.
Details concerning the identity of the deceased have not yet been disclosed to the public. As reported by FOX26 Houston, officials have not released the name pending notification of next of kin. Continued updates will follow as the investigation proceeds and more information becomes available.
