The streets around Keller Middle and High schools are gearing up for some traditional pomp as the 2024 Homecoming Parade is set to weave through the town this coming Monday, Sept. 30. Locals should be aware that increased foot traffic and road closures are on the menu from as early as 4:30 p.m., making for a potentially slower commute home.

Those accustomed to the evening drive on Johnson Road will need to reroute; the thoroughfare is set to shut down between Charles Street and Rufe Snow Drive starting at 6 p.m., as the parade is slated to begin at 6:30 p.m., snaking its path from College and Lorine streets – heading west on Lorine, then north on Jessie, east on Johnson and finally winding south on Pate Orr, towards the celebratory destination at the Keller ISD Stadium.

Following the colorful display of school spirit, a community pep rally will take over the stadium, extending the festivities into the night. While the roads are expected to sequentially reopen as the parade advances, North Pate Orr will linger in closure post-parade, remaining shut north of Meadow Circle North until about 8:30 p.m. to handle the dispersal of floats and the pedestrian throngs.

Those with plans excluding cheerleaders and marching bands might want to steer clear of the area, or so recommends the announcement from the City of Keller, which advises using alternate paths until around 8 p.m., by which most thoroughfares will have returned to their typical flow. Additionally, the neighboring Keller Public Library is opting for an early closure at 5 p.m. on the day of the parade, presumably to dodge the impending traffic snarls and to allow staff and patrons to partake in or avoid the hoopla as they see fit.
