In a federal courtroom, Giovanny Rivera-Sanchez, a 38-year-old Kissimmee resident, has entered a guilty plea to charges of firearm possession as a convicted felon. As detailed in a release by the United States Attorney's Office, Rivera-Sanchez, who has a criminal history dating back to 2004 and 2008, could face up to 15 years behind bars. The sentencing is set for December 17.
The case unfolded after a search warrant was executed at Rivera-Sanchez's residence on March 25, 2022. Law enforcement officers, found a Glock pistol along with ammunition stored in a closet, a clear breach for someone with Rivera-Sanchez's criminal record. Additional items related to Rivera-Sanchez's supervised release paperwork and previous drug trafficking conviction were also unearthed, indicating knowledge and ownership of the firearm. "He knew the firearm was inside his residence," Rivera-Sanchez admitted during an interview with officers, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Assistant United States Attorney Adam J. Nate is handling the prosecution of this case, which was the result of a collaborative investigation conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives alongside the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
