The National Weather Service in Morristown has issued a weather forecast that sees East Tennessee enveloped in the morning mist, with the day heating up to a high near 86, and Knoxville residents should keep their umbrellas at hand with showers and thunderstorms likely in the afternoon, specifically after 5 p.m., the National Weather Service reports.
Monday, Labor Day, appears more forgiving, with the sun expected to show up and shine mostly throughout the day and temperatures reaching up to 88 degrees. However, later tonight, the calm is set to be interrupted by more likely showers and thunderstorms before 9 p.m., with mostly cloudy conditions prevailing and temperatures dipping to around 68, and as we step into the night, the wind remains calm throughout this time.
The detailed forecast also mentions a string of partly sunny to mostly sunny days from Tuesday to Saturday, along with intermittent chances of rain and thunderstorms; Tuesday itself will sport a high near 86 with a low around 65 at night under partly cloudy skies, while Wednesday brings a 20 percent chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. under mostly sunny conditions, with a high near 83.
Meanwhile, the Hazardous Weather Outlook cautions of a marginal risk for strong to severe wind gusts this afternoon, particularly in northern and central parts of East Tennessee and southwest Virginia where storms may also bring locally heavy rainfall that could potentially result in flooding the risk of hazardous weather lessens moving into the week with skies clearing somewhat from Monday onwards.
Residents should note that while spotter activation isn't expected, keeping abreast of local weather updates remains prudent. It’s a generally sunny outlook with rain here and there, but when it comes to weather, it always pays to be prepared for the unexpected.
