In a Hays County courtroom, a significant judgment was handed down as 49-year-old Manuel Balderas received a 40-year sentence for sexually abusing multiple children. The sentence came after Balderas, from Kyle, was convicted on several serious charges, including continuous sexual abuse of a child younger than 14, along with charges of sexual assault and indecency with a child. As reported by FOX 7 Austin, evidence during the trial revealed that Balderas committed the abuse which started from the time the victims were in middle school and continued into their adulthood.
Details presented in court showed a disturbing pattern where Balderas abused his victims while masked by blankets when others were present. The evidence also indicated punishment inflicted upon the children for everyday childhood misbehaviors, utilizing both physical and sexual abuse as corrective measures. This information, as obtained by CBS Austin, illustrated a harrowing level of manipulation and control exerted by Balderas over the victims over a prolonged period.
During the sentencing phase, the jury and presiding Judge Bruce Boyer chose to stack three of the counts, resulting in the compounded 40-year prison term. Following his conviction, Balderas, previously out on bond, had his bond revoked. The decision by the jury reflects the gravity of the offenses and the impact on the victims.
"We would like to thank the victims and their supporting family members for the bravery and strength that it took to come forward and face their abuser in court," Assistant Criminal District Attorney Katie Arnold stated. According to a statement by the DA's office reported by FOX 7 Austin, "The sentence in this case shows that child sexual abuse will not be tolerated in Hays County." Arnold told. These remarks underscore a commitment to holding perpetrators accountable and a community's resolve to protect the most vulnerable among us.
