In a legal proceeding this past June, Dominick Yvon Louissaint, a 20-year-old from Lake Mary, pleaded guilty to charges of possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida reported that the plea resulted in Louissaint being sentenced to nearly four years—46 months—in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Roy B. Dalton. Following his prison term, he is mandated to forfeit the firearm and ammunition involved in the incident.
On January 24, Louissaint was cornered by Sanford Police at the site of an alleged burglary. Despite being ordered to show his hands, he attempted to escape. Instead, the police successfully detained him and found a loaded, concealed firearm and additional ammunition on his person, along with two ski masks. The Department of Justice has stated that this contravenes federal law, considering Louissaint's prior convictions involving robbery and gun offenses.
This case highlights issues with repeat offenders and gun possession and involves teamwork in both enforcement and prosecution. The FBI led the investigation, with help from the Sanford Police and Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, showing the collaboration encouraged by PSN. Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard Varadan led the prosecution, emphasizing the effort to tackle and prevent violent crime, especially involving guns.
