The Las Cruces Fire Department (LCFD) has announced the promotion of veteran firefighter Sean Heck to the position of Deputy Chief of Administration, replacing the now-retired Justin Allen. With a robust experience of 22 years within the department, Heck steps into a role that oversees both client services and administrative responsibilities.
Heck's journey with LCFD started when he graduated from the department's 22nd Academy in November 2002. Since then, he has worked his way up, from his initial post as a paramedic to his influential role as EMS coordinator, and, finally, to battalion chief in 2016. His ascent through the ranks is a testament to his commitment and skill, which, has not only merited him promotions but also augmented LCFD's capabilities in emergency medical services.
According to the City of Las Cruces, Heck expressed his gratitude, “I would like to thank my brothers and sisters at the Las Cruces Fire Department for their support in helping me reach this goal,” and acknowledged the trust placed in him by the higher-ups for his new role. Among the advancements Heck is credited with is the elevation of the department's level of care certifications and the implementation of a new record management system that streamlined reporting processes.
Alongside his practical contributions, Heck is also known for his academic pursuits, having completed a bachelor's degree in Fire Science, and for his teaching work in the EMS program. As Deputy Chief of Administration, his role involves the continuation of oversight of customer services, and the handling of administrative duties for LCFD. Heck, and his wife, Tonia, share their lives with their two daughters, Alana and Alexa.
