A distressing incident in Caldwell County, Lenoir, has led to Frank Lynn Moody being charged with multiple felonies after allegedly hijacking a Spectrum boom truck while a technician was working on power lines, according to authorities. QC News reported that the Spectrum service truck was taken late Wednesday night from the 2400 block of Morganton Boulevard, with the technician sustained in the bucket; further reported, the truck was subsequently involved in a collision that brought down a utility pole and resulted in non-life-threatening injuries to the worker.

The aftermath of the theft saw a substantial part of Caldwell County dealing with significant utility outages though crews were dispatched, restored service to the impacted area but Moody's abrupt journey culminated in the truck's halting off the roadway and though there were extensive disruptions, the worker was reportedly in the aerial basket throughout the ordeal, as stated by WCNC.

Moody, who was detained without further issues, is facing charges that include felony larceny of a motor vehicle, felony injury to wires and fixtures of utility companies, and felony assault with a deadly weapon leading to serious injury, the Lenoir Police Department indicated. WSOC-TV also disclosed that prior to this incident, Moody had been released from jail a mere two hours before his alleged antics with the Spectrum truck begun.

David Hipsher, a neighbor with experience working on bucket trucks described the terror associated with such heights, assuming, "I’ve been up 80 feet, and you’re that far up in the air — just, the wind can shift and make you move. Rock you back two or three feet, so he had to be terrified," Hipsher's sentiments were captured by WSOC-TV. Meanwhile, the police informed that the interrupted Highway 18 due to the ongoing repairs, must be accessible before school dismissal, although a precise timeframe for the completion of these repairs has not been furnished.

The investigation is ongoing and the Lenoir Police Department encourages anyone with information to come forward and contact them at 828-757-2100 or Caldwell County Crime Stoppers at 828-758-8300.
