Parents experienced a surge of relief yesterday when the Lewisville Police Department (LPD) announced that the earlier reports of a potential shooter at Lewisville High School were unfounded; with an investigation quickly revealing the incident was a hoax. According to the Lewisville Police Department's Facebook page, the threat originated from "another geographic area" and seemed designed to incite panic.
Panic was in the air as parents received news that the high school was on lockdown, due to reports of an armed individual in the vicinity; fortunately, subsequent updates clarified that no such threat existed, "None of this happened," the Lewisville Police Department confirmed. Following the all-clear, the school district facilitated a reunion between parents and students at the auditorium, reminding parents to bring identification for verification.
Initially, Lewisville High School responded to the threat with an immediate lockdown, as detailed in a post on their social media at about 9:30 a.m., arousing community concerns and prompting law enforcement to secure the area. Eventually, after a tense investigation, the LPD dispensed the sigh-inducing update that students and staff were out of harm's way, and the alleged presence of an armed subject was not credible.
