Lynnfield's Old Town Market Devastated by Blaze, Businesses Face Total LossSource: Google Street View

Last night, a devastating fire engulfed the Old Town Market complex in Lynnfield, Massachusetts, causing significant damage to numerous businesses. The Lynnfield Fire Department reported the blaze at the strip mall located just off Salem and Summer streets. Every business within the complex sustained damage from the fire, according to NBC Boston. The inferno's origins remain uncertain, and the investigation is ongoing.

The property owner of the Old Town Market alerted firefighters by forcefully banging on the door of the fire station overnight. They were quick to the scene, where they were met with the sight of the building in flames. Despite the intensity of the fire, no injuries have been reported. Interestingly, two businesses within the complex were open at the time of the incident, as per fire officials.

Subsequent daybreak unveiled the extensive harm inflicted upon the businesses, with the Lynnfield Fire Chief Glenn Davis suggesting most would likely suffer a total loss. The fire began around 9 p.m., ripping through the mall located on Post Office Square. CBS Boston shared that the absence of sprinklers in the old building, coupled with a common attic space, facilitated the rapid spread of the fire across the establishments, including a Dunkin' and a martial arts studio.

The loss of these businesses has echoed sorrow through the community, with local resident Taylor Jenkins expressing the impact, "That Dunks is full of locals every morning. My daughter did karate right at the Cervizzi's on the corner, so it's going to be pretty tough. And the little mart there, every time you go in you see somebody local, so it's too bad," Jenkins told CBS Boston. Multiple fire departments responded to the scene, but a full recovery for the mall seems unlikely. The Massachusetts fire marshal's office will be involved as the inquiry into the cause of the fire progresses.
