A man has been charged with assault in connection with a shooting that unfolded in Chinatown earlier this summer. According to a statement from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), the incident took place on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, when officers from the First District were called to an alley near the 600 block of H Street, Northwest at around 8:04 p.m.
The MPD's account details that, following a dispute in the alley, an adult male was found injured with a gunshot wound. Transported to a hospital, his injuries were serious but not life-threatening. It was announced that 30-year-old Tyrice Sutton from Northwest, DC, has been charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. Located by the Metro Transit Police Department, Sutton also faced a Fugitive from Justice and a Parole Violation Warrant before the new charge.
The arrest, which took place on Saturday, September 14, reflects a collaboration between local police forces. "The Metropolitan Police Department would like to thank the Metro Transit Police Department for their assistance in this case and their continued partnership," the MPD statement read. The investigation into the July shooting is ongoing, with authorities still seeking information on other potential suspects.
The MPD is urging anyone with knowledge about the attack to come forward, reminding the public to avoid direct intervention by calling (202) 727-9099 or using the text tip line at 50411. To incentivize community support, there is a standing offer—a reward of up to $10,000 is available for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for violent crimes committed in the District of Columbia.
