Metropolitan Police have arrested a man in connection with a deadly shooting that took place last month on Minnesota Avenue in Northeast D.C. On the evening of August 24, officers were called to the 3800 block of Minnesota Avenue, where they found 49-year-old Michael Simpson suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, Simpson was unable to survive the attack, ultimately dying the following day. According to the Metropolitan Police Department's statement, the efforts of DC Fire and EMS to save Simpson's life were unavailing.

In a development that occurred just over a month after the shooting, police say they have now apprehended the alleged gunman. Yesterday, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force were able to locate Damon Maurice McQuarters, 43, who authorities say had no fixed address. Following his arrest yesterday, McQuarters was brought to the Homicide Branch and charged with First Degree Murder While Armed (Premeditated), as per a DC Superior Court arrest warrant.

The Metropolitan Police Department's release credits the Task Force for their role in tracking down McQuarters. Their diligence, coupled with inter-agency collaboration, appears to have been pivotal in being able to formally charge an individual in relation to the crime.
