A man critically injured in a hit-and-run crash late last month in Houston has succumbed to his injuries, local police confirmed. The incident, which involved a white Ford Mustang striking the pedestrian and fleeing the scene, occurred near the 200 block of Chartres Street around 11 p.m. on August 30. According to a statement from the Houston Police Department, the victim, whose identity remains to be verified by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, was pronounced deceased yesterday.
The HPD Vehicular Crimes Division, led by Sergeant R. Dallas and Officer S. Bouarar, reported the Mustang was traveling northbound when the driver struck the pedestrian. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded rapidly to the crash site and transported the critically injured man to Ben Taub General Hospital. The suspect's vehicle was later discovered unoccupied at an apartment complex in the 1500 block of Burnett Street by the HPD Gang Division Crime Reduction Unit officers who arrived later at the scene.
Detectives are now appealing for assistance in identifying the hit-and-run driver who did not stop to render aid.
