The Metropolitan Police Department is currently on the lookout for an escaped prisoner, as confirmed in a recent press release. 27-year-old Derrick Ross-Simms, previously arrested on firearms and drug charges, managed to slip away from police custody during a hospital visit early yesterday morning.
Ross-Sims was being transported to a local hospital for treatment around 12:31 am when he found an opportunity to quickly flee from officers on foot. Authorities last spotted him in the 1300 block of Southern Avenue, Southeast, as detailed by the Metropolitan Police Department. A DC Superior Court arrest warrant for Escape is now active against him.
Currently, there is a reward of up to $10,000 being offered to anyone who can provide information that leads to the successful capture and conviction of Ross-Simms. MPD considers the nature of his previous charges, Carrying a Pistol Without a License and Possession of a Controlled Substance, serious, underscoring the importance of locating him as swiftly as possible.
The MPD urges individuals who may have any relevant information on this incident to avoid confrontation and instead contact them at (202) 727-9099. Alternatively, tips can be securely sent to the Department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.
