Human skeletal remains were discovered on a private property in the Town of Two Rivers, as the Manitowoc County Sheriff's Office continues its investigation. The remains were found by a local deer hunter on Saturday, who then promptly alerted authorities, according to the WISN report.
While the discovery has drawn public attention due to the case of the missing 3-year-old Elijah Vue, who disappeared back on February 20, Sheriff Dan Hartwig insisted in an immediate announcement that they could not confirm any connection to the Vue case at this time. The Manitowoc County Sheriff's Office, as reported by JSOnline, said identifying the remains "will be a lengthy process" and declined to provide specifics on the race, sex, or age of the remains.
With an investigation that is set to involve the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation, Wisconsin State Crime Lab, University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Anthropology Department, Two Rivers Police Department, and the Manitowoc County Coroner's Office, resources are being pooled in a drive for answers. "We are fully aware of the ongoing case of missing 3-year-old Elijah Vue, who disappeared in February. However, at this time, we are unable to confirm if the remains discovered are related to this case," the sheriff's office elucidated in a release referenced by CBS 58.
Amid the investigation, the community's concern for the fate of Elijah Vue looms, with the boy's mother, Katrina Baur, and her boyfriend, Jesse Vang, currently in custody facing child neglect charges related to the disappearance. Vang, who has become the last person known to see Vue, is embroiled in questions regarding the child's whereabouts. However, no further updates are given by the Manitowoc County Sheriff's Office, which remains tight-lipped about the investigation until more information becomes available.
