A Marine has been detained following the discovery of his wife's body in military housing at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe. According to Hawaii News Now, the woman was found dead early Sunday morning, with the Marine now in the brig for detainment on Ford Island, although their identities have not been released by the authorities. The Naval Criminal Investigative Service, in tandem with the Honolulu Police Department, is handling the case, and no charges had been filed as of Monday evening.
While offering minimal details, a Navy spokesperson has stated, "Out of respect for the investigative process, NCIS will not comment further while the investigation remains ongoing," as obtained by Hawaii News Now. When the servicemember has been standing beside his detained colleague, this tragedy comes on its heels just when the incident at Marine Corps Base Hawaii is what's being actively investigated.
Adding to the sobering trend of incidents on military bases, Naval Criminal Investigative Service and Honolulu Police Department are also investigating another matter. As previously reported by KITV, this incident involves the death of a service member's dependent, though details about the cause of death and the relationship to the service member remain undisclosed.
In light of the ongoing situation, a statement from the US Marine Corps reads: "1st Marine Aircraft Wing is aware of an incident on Sept. 1 that resulted in the death of a service member's dependent." "The Naval Criminal Investigative Service and local authorities are actively investigating the incident, and the command is fully cooperating with that investigation. No further information is available at this time," as reported by KITV. These words come as the community is still grappling with the disappearance and subsequent investigation of 19-year-old Mischa Johnson from Schofield Army Barracks, who has been reported missing since July 31 and whose husband, Pfc. Dewayne Johnson II, has been arrested and charged, before the other woman was found dead in the barracks and led to another investigation.
Editor's Note: To avoid confusion, it was clarified that it was not Mischa Johnson's body that was found in the barracks.
