In a judgment that has brought a somber conclusion to a tragedy that unfolded nearly three years ago, a Memphis man has been pronounced guilty in connection to a fatal incident at Oak Court Mall. According to Action News 5, Quante Webb was found guilty of first-degree murder after a jury deliberated over his role in the shooting death of 21-year-old Jayson Hill in November 2021, a violent event that also wounded his 9-month-old baby.
The trial, which spanned five days, saw testimony from 13 witnesses, among them Webb's own girlfriend. "Thirteen witnesses took the stand during the trial, including Webb's girlfriend, who testified against him," as reported by FOX13 Memphis. Prosecutors detailed how Webb, acting on the belief that Hill was responsible for shooting his own brother, a claim that law enforcement had not confirmed, orchestrated a calculated ambush.
The attack occurred as Hill was exiting the mall, a moment Webb had prearranged to be notified of by an associate who followed Hill through the mall. As Hill stepped outside, Webb executed the plan, shooting him in the back of the head and arm. This act irreversibly altered the lives of two families in mere seconds, and in a heartbreaking twist, one of the bullets struck Hill's infant child.
The verdict arrived swiftly, with the jury needing only about one hour to conclude their deliberations, as mentioned by WREG. Webb's decisive actions on that November day, underscored by the severity of the jury's decision, have brought the weight of the law crashing down upon him, marking the gravity of a moment where a dispute led to a deadly intersection of lives at Oak Court Mall.
