A Memphis mother is facing charges after her six-year-old child was discovered with a firearm in their backpack at Germanshire Elementary School. Reports confirm that police responded to an "armed party call" at the school located on South Germantown Road, according to WREG.

The unsettling chain of events unfolded as a teacher assisted the kindergarten students in packing up for the day, she realized, that one child's backpack was significantly heavier than usual. Upon placing the backpack down, she heard what sounded like a metal object inside. "When she put the backpack down she heard a sound similar to a metal object hitting the ground", as per the WREG. A look inside revealed a black Taurus G2C 9mm handgun to the teacher's bewilderment.

Memphis Police and the child's mother, 26-year-old Tyranny Gray, were subsequently called to the scene. Gray admitted to owning the gun, which was not loaded, showing officers photographs of the weapon with a visible serial number. According to FOX13 Memphis, Gray told investigators that she had hidden it under the couch at her home.

She is now charged with aggravated child endangerment and has been taken into custody. The incident at Germanshire Elementary follows another occurrence, where a mother was charged after her child brought a gun to Getter K-8 School earlier this month. "Her arrest marked the second time in less than two week that the mother of a Memphis student was charged after their child was found to have a gun at a school", stated the report from FOX13 Memphis. The court date for Gray is set for Thursday.
